Leverage Perceptions About Your Product: Ask Your Target Audience About Their Shopping Behaviours and Attitudes

It’s important to understand your target audience’s shopping usage and attitudes because shopping behaviour isn’t logical. You have to ask to know. And you have to know in order to make the best decisions you can for your business!

We start by asking about usage to determine the categories your target audience shop in.

You can assume certain categories and products, like groceries, will be used by everyone, but not everything…things like sports equipment, or beauty products are more specific and based on personal habits, preferences and lifestyles.

Once you know what categories and products are used and purchased you can dig down to understand and explore more!

But wait! Usage doesn’t always mean they feel positive about a category. For example, most of us have cellphone, but it’s common to feel negative about a wireless provider.

Understanding and exploring means knowing if your category is positively received, and how attitudes reflect back on usage.

The more you can understand and leverage category perceptions, the more your marketing can bust through misconceptions OR embrace the positive lifestyle associations or motivations.

A great way to check-in with your target audience about their shopping usage, behaviours, and attitudes is a survey. Feel intimidated by launching a survey?
